ESG is a highly specialised remediation contractor with over 100 years of multidisciplinary expertise in remediation, decontamination and site enablement.

An experienced, UK based team

ESG Trading Ltd employs specialists in house who have significant experience in remediating complex and contaminated brownfield sites.  All key elements of the remediation strategy for the site will be delivered in-house to ensure that all technical, commercial, environmental and safety aspects are managed effectively.

We specialise in providing a wide portfolio of services, designed to overcome the problems associated with brownfield land development.

ESG is the owner and holding company for all other divisions within the group and is responsible for the main contractor aspect of the business.

Envestigate is our in-house contaminated land consultancy.  Managed by industry professionals, it has geo-environmental and remediation specialists to assist with the planning process, preparation of remediation strategies, undertaking remediation works, liaising with regulatory bodes and preparing final sign-off of environmental planning conditions.  The team also has a CL:AIRE Qualified Person in-house which means we can manage material import and reuse under the Definition of Waste Code of Practice.

DCS Environmental Ltd is our dedicated site enablement specialist contractor with over 30 years experience.

Recent sites successfully remediated by ESG include:

Didcot – 25 Hectare site, excavation and treatment of over 60,000 m3 of material which then required asbestos remediation, in accordance with the agreed Remediation Method Statement

Castleford – Investigation and completion of remediation documentation to support the planning application for residential development of around 1,400 new homes on a large brownfield site. Remediation of 8 hectares of highly contaminated land on the 3 former waste chemical land fill sites. The team will be implementing the full site remediation strategy in 2022

Sappi Mills, Blackburn – Demolition and slab removal of the historic mill buildings and foundations, including managing the restoration of site levels to meet planning requirements

Alma biofuels Bromborough – Demolition of a 16 hectare Bio-diesel production facility, removing all underground structures ready to remediate the site. Imported material ready on site in the next spring.

Meet the Team

Martin Greenwood (Chairman)

Martin has nearly 40 years’ experience in the construction industry focussing on large scale demolition, earthworks and enabling schemes on sites around the world.

As the owner of ESG Trading Ltd he is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the remediation works at Spodden Park meet statutory requirements.

Dan Mason (Technical Director – Contaminated Land)

Dan has twenty years’ experience working as an environmental consultant, working for a range of leading consultancy firms before being recruited by ESG to provide in-house advice.

Within this project Dan will be responsible for undertaking site investigation works, remedial strategies and the planning process in respect to contaminated land. The skill and experience Dan brings to the team will ensure ESG’s remediation work is carried out with the highest standard of safety.

Dan is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Water & Environmental Management (MCIWEM), a Chartered Engineer and a CL:AIRE Qualified Person.

Gary Chapman (Remediation Manager)

Gary is highly experienced in the decontamination and remediation of complex brownfield sites and has worked on a wide range of regeneration projects over 20 years. Gary’s primary responsibility will to oversee and implement the remediation strategy for the Spodden Park project, ensuring that the technical, commercial and safety management of the projects are delivered to the highest standard.

Jon Lane (Project Manager)

Jon is a construction project manager with 25 years’ experience in site-based supervision and management of schemes. He has extensive experience in the construction sector and has previously worked on projects which have also required specialist demolition practises.

Jon will be responsible for overseeing the site-based management of the project and will guide the team throughout the demolition and construction process. He has a background in safety and compliance and is SMSTS and Nebosh qualified. His credentials, alongside his previously experiences working on land-based restoration projects across the North of England and Midlands, provides ESG with invaluable knowledge and will support the team throughout the Spodden Park project.
